If you are a music lover then Calgary Folk Fest is a great family day out with something for everyone to enjoy.
There is so much music that you could easily spend your day jumping around the different stages and discovering some treasures. We went in support of a friend's band from Calgary. The Love Bullies. If you're into 60s style cheeky swinging girl bands then these guys will be right up your street. We also got to see the Wood Brothers who are a Wild Rose favourite - Bluesey Louisiana country music, what could be better listening on a hot summer afternoon. There was tonnes of other music and lots of cool collaboration between different groups that made for really interesting watching.
But there is so much more at Folk Fest than the music which was a pleasant surprise. All the food is amazing - Whatever your diet there is something for you. We indulged in Bison Smokies and even our littles scoffed it down. But there are plenty of other choices from vegan to meat feasts and all in between. You can even get a cup of simple milk (A festival first for me)
The festival is on Prince's Island right in the middle of Calgary and the whole island is licenced so you can grab a delicious Eau Claire Cocktail while your little ones run wild in the play area and everyone can stay together.
We took a picnic and a blanket and could have spent the whole weekend in our shady spot watching the world go by.
Would definitely recommend this for a chilled day out, especially if you have kids and want something fun for everyone (It can't just be me that doesn't want to spend their Saturdays in the soft play)
Bring on next year, we will definitely be regular attendants at the cool intimate festival.
